What Kind of Metal is That?

No Remission is a METAL band. Straight up. Please do not insert your silly little restrictive sub-genres in front. We do not wish to limit ourselves. When I tell people that I play in a metal band, one of two things happens normally. A lot of times, as soon as the word "metal" is heard, a blatant rolling of the eyes occurs. This is fine because we really don't care about pleasing those people anyway. And besides, I know that, despite there pre-conceived intolerance, one listen would most likely make them question such a disposition. The other common reaction is the question "What kind of Metal?" to which I feel the best answer is "the heavy kind". It's almost as if there is some kind of textbook out there for writing heavy songs. Most likely divided into specific chapters such as death, thrash, and a 30 page supplement with pie charts and everything about the application of "core". Seriously, what the fuck does "core" mean? Sadly, a lot of what is coming out these days is homogeneous and bland. I would wager to say that if asked, almost any of these bands would have some kind of tremendously long, probably hyphenated label such as "Post-aggressive vegetarian fecal-core". It probably already exists. We are here do it our own way, we have alot of consistent influences in our music but we do everything we can to avoid formulas and predictability. So take a listen and decide for yourself, and if you're in a "_________ metal" band or any of the hundreds of "_______core" groups out there, don't be afraid to try a little harder and blur the lines. -Will
